Flood Risk in Harris County, Texas
These graphics/maps were designed for my Geography Independent Study (GEOG 0500), which assessed how the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) updated flood insurance rate—entitled Risk Rating 2.0—would impact coastal dwellers’ abilities to afford living along the coastline in the near future. Using metrics from the US Census such as median home value, median household income, and homes with mortgages, it was possible to predict/speculate which census tracts appeared most vulnerable to these new shifts in flood insurance premiums.
